The demand for Reading Alloys high-purity fine powders has increased significantly for powder metallurgy and metal injection molding (MIM) applications.
Powder Metallurgy
Reading Alloys supplies low oxygen content titanium alloy powders for the production of low oxygen titanium alloy parts in near shape applications. Powder Metallurgy (P/M) refers to a range of manufacturing and metal forming practices that are used to produce near shape parts from mixtures of metal and alloy powders. The primary commercial P/M processes for the production of parts and components are pressing and sintering and direct powder consolidation by hot isostatic pressing, roll compaction and pneumatic isostatic forging.
P/M offers many advantages compared to other metal from technologies such as control over the grain size, production of high volume quantities, fabrication of a wide range of shapes and elimination of scrap.
Metal Injection Molding
Powder Injection Molding (PIM) offers lower production costs, higher tolerances, and ultimate flexibility and reliability. PIM technology produces the highest quality finished metal components by molding metal alloy powder as if it were plastic. High-precision components are molded, maintaining the complex shape from a wide variety of metal alloys. The beneficial features of metal injection molding include a uniform distribution and exceptional surface finish and strength. Reading Alloys supplies several metal and alloy hydride powders that are well suited for PIM applications.
